2009/2010 DCHL
For the 2009/2010 Dryden Christian Hockey League season we will continue with the changes implemented last season with regards to the Annual Christian Invitational Hockey Tournament at the end of the year. The Annual Christian Invitational Hockey Tournament is separate from the Dryden Christian Hockey League. The Dryden Christian Hockey League is a way/means to play in the Annual Christian Invitational Hockey Tournament, but it is not the only way in which a player is eligible to play. The Annual Christian Invitational Hockey Tournament extends an invitation to the Dryden Christian Hockey League for two teams. Teams and players must be invited to be eligible to play in the Annual Christian Invitational Hockey Tournament. The guidelines with regards to player eligibility are for the purpose of icing two competitive hockey teams for the tournament that will still display an attitude and level of sportsmanship appropriate to a Christian team/tournament. The level of play at the tournament is getting better and better with each year that goes by.
The following are the guidelines for the 2009/2010 Dryden Christian Hockey League Season:
I – We have 2 teams established that play in the league on a weekly basis. The sole purpose of having 2 teams is so that the core group of players can play together for the majority of the season so that they are better prepared to play as a cohesive unit for the Tournament. We will, on a periodic basis, mix the teams up for a game so that guys will get a chance to play with other players and to try to avoid creating any sort of animosity between the teams.
For each team that is in the Dryden Christian Hockey League there is a general manager responsible for that team. For the Dryden Crusaders, Brent Moorman is the general manager. He is responsible for putting a team together for the Annual Christian Invitational Hockey Tournament, and is also in charge of the weekly operations of the Dryden Crusaders. For the Spartan Hockey Club, Ben Borton is the general manager. He is responsible for putting a team together for the Annual Christian Invitational Hockey Tournament, and is also in charge of the weekly operations of the Spartan Hockey Club.
II – Each general manager will be required to pick his team by a deadline to be set by the Dryden Christian Hockey League committee.
III – Players will be chosen by the general managers based on their play during Saturday night games and other leagues in which players may play in. Players will be evaluated based on:
1) Attitude
2) Sportsmanship
3) Skill Level
4) Attendance to church hockey/church/T.A.G.
5) Effort
* Each general manager will have the final decision on each player on his team
IV – Each general manager will decide on how many players they will be bringing to the tournament with a maximum of 20 players (including goalies). It is the general manager’s call as to how many players he brings to the tournament.
V – If a player plays on either the Crusaders or the Spartans during the season that does not mean they are automatically playing in the tournament at the end of the year. Not all players will be invited to play in the tournament. The Tournament is a Christian “Invitational” Hockey Tournament, separate from the Dryden Christian Hockey League. A player must be invited by one of the general managers in order to be eligible to play in the tournament.
VI – Each general manager will be able to “invite” hockey players from out of town to play on their teams for the Annual Christian Invitational Hockey Tournament. Each team will be allowed to have up to 3 “out of town” players who are Christians, and who attend church on a regular basis where they live. An “out of town” player is defined as one who has lived away from Dryden for five or more consecutive years.
VII – Each general manager is allowed to pick players from both of the Crusaders and Spartans. But only when each general manager has picked the players from his own team first.
VIII – For the 2009/2010 Dryden Christian Hockey season players will need to pay either for each game that they play, or for the entire year. For players that are paying by the game they cannot go more than two games without paying. Players who have not paid up by the Christmas break must pay what they owe before they can return to play in the Dryden Christian Hockey League following the Christmas break. Players must be all paid up before they can become eligible to play in the Annual Christian Invitational Hockey Tournament. Goalies will also be required to pay player fees for the upcoming year. Each player is to pay their fees to their team’s general manager. The total cost for the 2009/2010 season will be $230 for the entire year, or $15 per game. Any player planning on playing 5 games or more is required by the town to have insurance. Insurance is provided to the league through Hockey Canada at a cost of $22 per player. The insurance is included in the $230 fee for the season, but those paying by the game will have to pay the $22. Insurance fees must be paid for by December 5, 2009. Players must be insured through Hockey Canada to be eligible to play in the Dryden Christian Hockey League.
IX – On ice rules for the 2009/2010 season will be all players that are under the age of 18 will be required to wear full face protection as per arena policy. Also all players must wear full lower body equipment for league games, and for the tournament. Slap shots will also be allowed this year for league games, and as well as in the tournament.
Hockey Canada has implemented rules for the 2009 season and beyond to reduce the size of goalie equipment to bring it in line with the NHL rules. We will not be implementing this rule due to the cost prohibitive nature of purchasing a complete set of new goalie equipment. This rule will also not be in place for the Tournament.
X – In closing, we would like to thank all the players that come out, and play on a weekly basis. You guys truly make our league what we have all come to love. This league would be nothing without you guys. We’re looking forward to another fun, and competitive hockey season. See you on the ice.
Sincerely,
DCHL Committee
